The Update That Gave Us Cold Feet

When the Update Landed

Instagram’s recent update threw a curveball at brands everywhere. Carefully built grids looked unbalanced, Highlights got misplaced, and the rhythm of feeds was disrupted overnight. For a platform where first impressions matter, that’s no small problem.

At Xinom, we didn’t scrap our content. Instead, we tweaked the way it was presented.

Step 1: Changing the Grid Order

The first big shift was realizing we could reorder posts within the feed. This wasn’t about deleting or reposting, but about reshuffling to restore visual balance.

  • Posts that clashed with the new format were pushed further down

  • High-impact visuals were brought up front

  • Campaign content was grouped together for continuity

By treating the grid like a flexible canvas instead of a fixed archive, we quickly regained a clean, cohesive look.

Step 2: Removing Highlights From the Main Feed

The next move was bold but effective: we removed Highlights from the main feed view.

Why? Because during the update, Highlights began disrupting the visual flow of our grid. Instead of enhancing the brand, they made the profile look cluttered.

So, we stripped them back. The result?

  • A cleaner, less crowded profile

  • More emphasis on the grid itself

  • A streamlined aesthetic that felt intentional

Followers didn’t lose access, they just experienced a smoother visual journey when landing on our page.

Step 3: The Aftermath

The combination of grid reshuffling and Highlight removal gave us back control. What could have been weeks of chaos turned into a quick pivot that made our profile stronger than before.

It also forced us to rethink what really matters: the grid is the first impression, not the archive. By curating it carefully and keeping distractions minimal, we now have a feed that works harder for our brand.

Lessons Learned

  • Don’t panic, updates are temporary chaos, not permanent disasters

  • Reordering posts can bring back harmony without new content

  • Sometimes less is more, removing features can improve clarity

  • The grid is your storefront, protect it first

The Xinom Edit Takeaway

Instagram will always evolve, and not every update will play nicely with your brand’s aesthetic. But with flexibility and strategy, you can turn disruptions into opportunities.

For us, reshuffling the grid and removing Highlights was the winning move. And our feed has never looked sharper.
